Oxitec’s Parent Company Sells Cloned Dogs for $50,000.

Oxitec’s parent company, Intrexon, has built its profile by acquiring a number of genetically modified animal technologies, including household pets. The company’s ViaGen subsidary charges $50,000 to clone a dog and $25,000 to duplicate your cat. The exact rearing process isn’t described on the website, where cloning is simply explained as the “Cadillac of animal care.” It’s hard to imagine that animal lovers would think expensive cloning of animals in a laboratory is better than adoption of rescued dogs and cats that need homes.
