Page 39 is my favorite in the Oxitec FDA Report. That’s where they admit that 62 biting females, genetically modified with 5 species, will be released PER PERSON during the Key Haven trial. This is based on a total release of 14,352,000 mosquitoes over an area of 115 houses with an estimate of 4 people per home.
A little math shows that’s 125,956 male mosquitoes PER HOME which is more than double the number which exist in the wild. Why so many? The inbred Oxitec mosquitoes aren’t very efficient at mating (only 50% effective, according to the report), so huge numbers must be released in order to have any hopes of attracting females. This entire project is bad science.
