Great progress at the media rally and peaceful protest at the Mosquito District. We weren’t invited (or even told about) the media tour, so we asked for and were promised our own tour to take place in two weeks when Oxitec Product Manager Derric Nimmo returns to the island. We’re looking forward to sharing video from inside the lab as well as Derric’s answers on camera about some important community questions.
It’s interesting that just days after we broke the story about the secret deal that produced this lab, Oxitec would have a media event and show it to the press. It was also interesting that our interactions were brokered by a Vice President from Hill+Knowlton, one of the world’s largest PR firms, undoubtedly hired by Oxitec.
